Fieldwork 1- Levelling

Attributable to the ease of precise centering of level tube and time-saving if only rough levelling is involved, auto level meter is yet being adopted until this day and age. The very primary instinct when I was assigned this task is a sense of surprise and joy as we are quite acquainted with the levelling which has been came out in the mid-term test. Since our lecturer, Mr. Wong Jee Khai has given the brief on using the instrument before this fieldwork, it undeniably eases us on the consequent fieldwork.

We confronted several circumstances which lengthen our time consumption on this fieldwork.  As a result of haze condition, it becomes one of the major problems that contributes to misjudgments in reading the staff reading. However, this problem is solved as four of us compromise to participate in reading the staff and take the average reading. Moreover, fault handling such as centering of bubble during the beginning, which alsoserves as a problem, is solved by continuous trials and practices adopted. Besides that, precautions should  be take into account as it influences on the accuracy of the reading taken.

In a nutshell, I was blessed to have a group of highly dedicated members working members. It was indeed a good experience to boost up my understanding of this levelling topic.

FieldWork 2 – Traversing Survey

At first, we have a perception that this task will only centering on the measurement of  the distances and angles between the four points. Nevertheless, the things become sophisticated when it comes to the computation of several components such as azimuth, latitudes and departures as well as coordinates. Owing to the insufficient time for the lecturer to clarify further about the traversing topic, we confront the barriers during computation of the coordinates which we have never done before. It was a gigantic challenge for us however we, ultimately, are able to solve it after several discussions with groupmates and references to books. Besides that, there is an argument that some of the groupmates which assume bearing DA as N 00º00’00”E while the others make the bearing AB as N 00º00’00”E which in turn results in two different data analysis and interpretations. All of these disputes is resolved as we get confirmation from our lecturer that any bearing can be act as N 0º00’00”E. In a nutshell, the beginning always the toughest; nonetheless, all will be paid off soon upon the efforts given to understand the concepts regarding the traversing.
